The Laboratory of System Investigations of Ethnomusical
Cultures is a scientific subdivision attached to the chair of
ethnomusicology. Research assistants, students and post-graduate
students take part at the activity of the Laboratory.
The Laboratory carries out the research based on structural and
analytical methods such as the universal grammars, mathematic
statistics, comparativistics and also the articulation analysis of
timbre. The purpose of Laboratory is the system description of
separate genre traditions in cultures of Siberia and Far East and
ethnic intonational cultures as a whole.
The Laboratory regularly organizes musical ethnographic
expeditions. The folklore materials and the results of scientific
research are published in the editions of the Novosibirsk State
Conservatoire, Siberian Branch of Russian Academy of Sciences etc.
They become an integral part of new educational courses in the
framework of the pedagogical activity of the ethnomusicology
chair.
Two scientific seminars for musical semiotics and the theory of
intonational cultures and for musical ethnography are working at
the Laboratory.
